Clearwater, FL (33756) — A Clearwater man was arrested after allegedly “sucker punching” an Aldi shopper who was accompanied by a service dog at the Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard store. Store surveillance captured the unprovoked attack, which left the victim with facial injuries.
Clearwater Police confirmed the suspect is in custody and was booked into the Pinellas County Jail; a bail hearing is pending. The victim was treated at a hospital and released the same day and is recovering at home.
“Violence toward anyone—especially a person with a disability—is unacceptable,” said Sgt. Mark Allen. Chief Daniel Slaughter urged the public to “stay alert in public areas and report aggressive behavior immediately.”

Local resident Lisa Trent said, “It’s shocking. We shop there every weekend—this feels too close to home.”
