Russia is welcoming President Trump’s new U.S. national security strategy, calling it largely consistent with Moscow’s “vision.” Russian officials removed Russia from a list of U.S. threats, a change that has alarmed allies, including Ukraine.
The shift comes as U.S. and Ukrainian delegations met in Florida to discuss conditions for a peace deal. While talks continued, Russia launched a major attack: more than 600 drones and dozens of missiles struck targets, killing at least four people. One reported target was a railway hub Ukraine’s leaders said had no military value; a warehouse was set ablaze. Neighbors described the strikes as aimed at civilians rather than at facilitating peace. “This is not for peace,” one resident said. “This is for the destruction of Ukrainians.”
Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, spent Saturday honoring fallen soldiers and meeting families of those killed while negotiations over territory and security guarantees proceed. The U.S.-backed peace proposal reportedly includes territorial concessions — potentially including large areas currently occupied by Russia — alongside security guarantees designed to protect Ukraine from future attacks.
Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet leaders from the U.K., France and Germany in London to discuss the plan and the proposed security guarantees. Leigh Kiniry reports from London.
