An Ohio-based company is recalling Wegmans mixed nuts sold in nine U.S. states because they may be contaminated with Salmonella, the Food and Drug Administration said.
The recalled items are 34‑oz tubs of Wegmans Deluxe Mixed Nuts Unsalted and 11.5‑oz bags of Wegmans Deluxe Mixed Nuts Unsalted, sold in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C., between Nov. 3 and Dec. 1, according to the FDA recall notice.
Both products were manufactured by Mellace Family Brands California, based in Warren, Ohio. Routine testing by the supplier found that one lot of raw pistachios tested positive for Salmonella, prompting the recall. Salmonella infection can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain; it can sometimes lead to severe complications or death.
The FDA said no illnesses linked to the recalled products have been reported. Consumers who purchased the mixed nuts at Wegmans can return them to the store service desk for a full refund.
