Local and federal investigators said Friday they are examining a second message connected to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, as the search continues. Pima County sheriff’s deputies briefly cleared the street in front of her Tucson home while detectives returned to conduct another search of the property. The FBI confirmed it received a second message and is “actively inspecting the information provided in the message for its authenticity,” but has not revealed the message’s contents. The development follows an earlier, unverified ransom note that reportedly demanded payment in Bitcoin and included two deadlines; one deadline passed without any way for negotiators to re-establish contact. Officials say it is not yet clear whether the two messages are related. Law enforcement has been careful about releasing specifics on how the home was entered, saying such entry and exit details are critical to the investigation. In an updated timeline, authorities said there was about a 41-minute window between when a doorbell camera disconnected and when an app tied to Nancy Guthrie’s pacemaker disconnected from a phone left at the residence. Within that interval, software detected movement around 2:12 a.m., though no recording was captured. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators have not identified a suspect and that “nobody’s ruled out” anyone. He added the family remains devastated and that the FBI and the sheriff’s office are continuing their work. Officials are asking members of the public to come forward with any information that could help the investigation. Jonathan Vigliotti reported.
