“Today” host Savannah Guthrie and her siblings released a short Instagram video Saturday pleading for the return of their missing mother, saying, “We will pay.”
“We received your message and we understand,” Guthrie says in the clip. “We beg you now to return our mother to us so we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen Jan. 31. Authorities believe she was abducted from her Tucson-area home. A Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson told ABC News they were aware of the family’s video but had no additional information.
The video refers to a message investigators say they are studying that was received by a Tucson television station. The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Office have not confirmed the authenticity of that message or other ransom notes sent to several media outlets, but officials say they are treating all messages seriously.
No new leads had developed as of Saturday, according to a source familiar with the investigation and comments echoed by the sheriff’s office. The FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information that leads to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery and/or an arrest and conviction in her abduction.
Authorities say Nancy Guthrie was dropped off at her Catalina Foothills home shortly after 10 p.m. on Jan. 31 after dining with family. She was reported missing the next morning after she failed to attend church. A doorbell camera at the home was disconnected around 1:45 a.m. Sunday, and her pacemaker app showed it was disconnected from her phone shortly before 2:30 a.m. Investigators also reported finding blood on the home’s porch.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest. Prior to Saturday’s clip, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings posted other videos urging whoever has their mother to make contact and provide proof that she is alive.
