Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch has been hospitalized with a severe illness and will not compete at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend, his family said on May 21, 2026.
The Busch family announced the news on social media, saying Kyle is currently undergoing treatment and asking for privacy as they navigate the situation. No further medical details were released.
Busch, 41, of Las Vegas, currently sits 24th in the Cup Series standings with two top-10 finishes in 12 races this season. He won Cup championships in 2015 and 2019 and has 63 career NASCAR Cup Series victories. From 2004 through 2023 he recorded wins in 19 consecutive seasons; his most recent victory came in 2023, his first with Richard Childress Racing (RCR).
RCR said the team has made Busch’s health its top priority and that he and his family have the organization’s full support. The team added that his No. 8 Chevrolet will be ready for his return and wished him a safe and speedy recovery. Austin Hill will drive the No. 8 car in Sunday’s race at Charlotte.
The team and family did not provide a timeline for Busch’s return to competition. Fans and the racing community have been asked to respect the family’s request for privacy while he receives treatment.
