An investigation is underway in New York City after antisemitic graffiti was found at multiple locations across Queens. Swastikas and other hateful markings were reported on a synagogue, a Jewish community center, several private homes and a parked vehicle. The vandalism at the synagogue included graffiti drawn over a plaque honoring victims and survivors of Kristallnacht.
City Council Speaker Julie Menin said authorities are searching for at least four suspects who may have been involved. Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the incidents infuriating and said he stands in solidarity with the Jewish community.
NYPD officials said no arrests have been made and the investigation remains active. Police are asking anyone with information, video footage or tips to come forward as they work to identify those responsible.
Neighbors and members of the local Jewish community told reporters they feel angry, scared and saddened by the attacks, saying antisemitism has gone too far. NYPD statistics cited by CBS News show that 60% of hate crimes in New York City last month targeted the Jewish community.
Authorities continue to investigate the series of vandalism incidents in Queens and are seeking public assistance to help solve the case and hold perpetrators accountable.
