A bombing at a nightclub in Peru injured 33 people, including minors, authorities said Saturday.
The explosion occurred in the pre-dawn hours at the Dali nightclub in the province of Trujillo on Peru’s northern coast, the local Emergency Operations Center said. The region has recently been hit by rising violence and crime.
Officials did not immediately identify who was responsible or a motive. At least five of the wounded are in serious condition, Gerardo Florián Gómez, executive director of the Trujillo Health Network, told reporters. Some victims suffered amputations and shrapnel wounds and are undergoing surgery. Among the injured are three minors: one 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds, Florián said.
The blast came less than a month after another explosion in Trujillo that damaged about 25 homes but caused no injuries. Extortion and illegal mining afflict the La Libertad region, whose Andean area contains Peru’s largest gold-producing zone. In 2025 the region recorded 286 explosions, 136 of them in Trujillo, official figures show.
Authorities say the spread of organized criminal groups has driven increases in related crimes such as extortion.
