April 13, 2026 — Pop star Britney Spears has voluntarily entered a rehabilitation program after an arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence in Southern California in early March, a representative told CBSLA.
On March 4, California Highway Patrol officers in Ventura County responded to reports of a speeding vehicle on the 101 Freeway. When officers located the car, authorities say Spears appeared to be impaired and was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI following field sobriety tests. Officials have not yet released the results of the chemical test administered after the arrest. Spears, 44, was released from custody in the early hours of March 5.
At the time of the arrest, a spokesperson for Spears called the incident “unfortunate” and “completely inexcusable.” The representative said Spears intends to comply with the law and take the proper steps, adding hopes that this could be the beginning of much-needed change and that she will receive the help and support she needs during a difficult period.
CBSLA has contacted the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether Spears’ decision to enter rehab will affect her scheduled court appearance on May 4.
Spears last performed live in 2018 on her Piece of Me tour, which took place about a decade into a 13-year conservatorship that a Los Angeles judge terminated in 2021 after a lengthy legal battle. Since the conservatorship ended, Spears has been active on social media, frequently posting videos of herself dancing, and she published a memoir, The Woman in Me, in 2023.
