President Trump was scheduled to speak shortly after shots were fired at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, prompting a swift evacuation. The president, vice president and members of the Cabinet were rushed out of the ballroom and are reported to be safe, CBS News said.
CBS White House reporter Olivia Rinaldi, who was inside the ballroom, described the moment on camera, saying the noise of the gunfire reminded her of the shots heard at former President Trump’s 2024 Butler rally. She recounted immediate confusion as guests reacted and were escorted from the room while event staff and security worked to secure the area.
Rinaldi’s on-site account did not include details about the source of the gunfire, any suspects or additional injuries. Officials confirmed senior leaders were escorted from the venue unharmed. Law enforcement units were responding to the scene, and officials said investigations and official updates were expected as authorities gathered more information.
