FedEx said Tuesday it will offer same-day delivery through a partnership with logistics company OneRail, responding to moves by Amazon and other retailers to speed up shipping. The new option will let customers choose two-hour or end-of-day delivery at checkout. FedEx said it will match orders with delivery providers in its national network and provide tracking.
Customers can opt in for same-day service for a range of packages, including large, oversized or specialized deliveries, the company said. FedEx did not immediately say when the service will launch or which markets will be covered. OneRail, based in Orlando, said on its website that it uses artificial intelligence to streamline deliveries; its customers include Lowe’s and PepsiCo. OneRail did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The move comes as Amazon and Walmart expand expedited shipping. Amazon recently introduced one-hour and three-hour delivery options in many U.S. cities, and Walmart has broadened faster delivery windows, including early-morning and late-evening options.
