Polk County, FL — A woman who recently gave birth to a 7-week-old infant has been arrested in connection with the killing of a 69-year-old decorated Vietnam War veteran, authorities said. Deputies allege she assisted an accomplice in the slaying and that the victim’s body was dumped in a rural area near Bartow, close to Highway 60 in Polk County (33830).
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office described the incident as a “cold and calculated act” and said the suspects were acquainted with the victim. Investigators indicated the apparent motive involves robbery and betrayal. A second suspect is also in custody as detectives continue their investigation.
Officials released photographs and an arrest affidavit as part of the probe and said documented evidence led to the arrests. The Sheriff’s Office reiterated that the case appears to stem from a planned criminal act rather than a random attack.
Local residents expressed shock at the news. “It’s heartbreaking to think someone could harm a man who served his country,” said Lisa Rowe, owner of a Bartow diner. The Sheriff’s Office called the crime an act of betrayal and violence.
