Israeli forces and Hezbollah continued to exchange attacks as Washington and Tehran weigh a new ceasefire proposal.
Israel ordered evacuations in southern Lebanon
An Israel Defense Forces spokesperson directed residents of 11 towns and villages in southern Lebanon to evacuate immediately, saying the military planned to act “forcefully” against suspected Hezbollah positions. The communities named for evacuation were Al-Duwayr, Arab Salim, Al-Sharqiya, Jibshit, Braashit, Sarafand, Dounin, Briqa, Qaaqaiya Al-Jisr, Al-Qasiba and Kafra Sir. United Nations figures cited in recent reporting say more than one million people in Lebanon have been displaced by Israeli strikes, ground operations and evacuation orders.
IDF reports widespread strikes; Hezbollah says it hit Israeli forces
The IDF said over the weekend it struck about 120 alleged Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, describing roughly 70 as military-use structures and about 50 as other infrastructure. The claim was posted on the social platform X. Hezbollah, in turn, said it carried out five new attacks on Israeli forces in the south during the same period.
U.S. president reviews Iran’s new proposal
Separately, President Donald Trump said he was preparing to review a fresh peace proposal from Iran that was sent through Pakistani intermediaries. Speaking to reporters, he said officials had described the “concept of the deal” and that he was awaiting the exact wording. On his social media account he added, “I will soon be reviewing the plan that Iran has just sent to us, but can’t imagine that it would be acceptable in that they have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity, and the World, over the last 47 years.”
Iranian media outline Tehran’s counterproposal
Semi-official Iranian outlets reported that Tehran submitted a 14-point counterproposal in response to a U.S. nine-point plan delivered earlier. According to those reports, Iran disputes a U.S. request for a two-month ceasefire, arguing that outstanding issues should be resolved within 30 days. Reported Iranian demands include withdrawal of U.S. forces from areas around Iran, lifting a naval blockade and establishing a new mechanism for the Strait, easing sanctions, and ending hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. The U.S. has not publicly commented on the specific details of its negotiations with Iran.
The situation remains fluid, with continued exchanges along the Israel-Lebanon border and diplomatic efforts underway between Tehran and intermediaries as leaders on both sides consider next steps.
