Former Vice President Kamala Harris said Friday she may run for president in 2028, telling an audience in New York that she is considering a third White House bid.
“Listen, I might. I’m thinking about it,” Harris said when Rev. Al Sharpton asked her at the National Action Network conference in Manhattan. She noted her experience serving four years “a heartbeat away from the presidency,” spending extensive time in her West Wing office, the Oval Office and the Situation Room, and said that experience has given her a clear sense of what the job requires.
Harris added that she has been traveling across the country over the past year, spending significant time in the South, and believes the status quo is not working for many people.
Harris lost to President Trump in 2024 after replacing then-President Joe Biden atop the Democratic ticket. She had previously sought the Democratic nomination in 2020 before Biden selected her as his running mate. Since her 2024 defeat she has largely kept a low profile and declined a 2025 run for California governor, a decision that fueled speculation about a possible 2028 presidential campaign.
