Pinterest plans to reduce its workforce by up to 15% this year, saying the move will let the company reallocate resources to expand its artificial intelligence capabilities. The company disclosed the plan in a regulatory filing, saying the reduction will affect “less than 15% of the company’s workforce” and will include cuts to office space.
Pinterest said the cuts are intended to create cash flow for AI-focused roles and teams, AI-powered products and to accelerate how it conducts sales. In a statement, a Pinterest spokesperson said the company is “making organizational changes to further deliver on our AI-forward strategy, which includes hiring AI-proficient talent,” and that it had “made the difficult decision to say goodbye to some of our team members.”
Founded in 2008, Pinterest lets users discover and save recipes, décor and other content and shop for products. The company has about 4,666 employees, according to FactSet.
Pinterest expects the restructuring to be finished by Sept. 30, 2026, and said it will incur pre-tax charges of roughly $35 million to $45 million.
Pinterest is among several companies citing AI in recent layoffs. On Monday, Nike said it would cut about 775 jobs as it seeks to streamline operations and accelerate the “use of advanced technology and automation.”
