Long Beach police are investigating after a family discovered what appeared to be human remains during an Easter egg hunt near DeForest Park and Wetlands. Officers responded to the 5900 block of De Forest Avenue at about 5 p.m. after the find, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office was called to the scene.
Family members, speaking off-camera to local media, told reporters they believed they had uncovered a small child’s skull and other bones while children were searching for eggs. Aerial video from the scene showed brightly colored eggs nearby and what appeared to be a partially excavated skull in the ground; two officers were seen shielding the area with a canopy.
A witness who walked the path after the discovery described a tense, upsetting scene and said the family appeared distraught. Police have not released further details, citing the ongoing investigation, and said information would be limited while authorities process the site. Long Beach officers remained at the location into the late evening as investigators continued their work.
