Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sunday’s talks in Florida with Ukrainian officials about a U.S. plan to end the war with Russia were “productive,” but added there is “more work to be done.” The discussions were attended by a Ukrainian delegation led by the country’s security chief. Rubio emphasized that U.S. aims go beyond stopping the fighting: Washington wants Ukraine “to be safe forever,” he said, so it never faces another invasion.
Fighting, meanwhile, continued across Ukraine over the weekend. Holly Williams reported from Warsaw that Russia launched strikes on cities around the country, including the use of 122 drones and ballistic missiles, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Near Kyiv, a drone strike hit an apartment building, killing one person and wounding 19, including four children, local officials said. The attacks again sent many Kyiv residents underground to subway stations for shelter — a pattern seen since the fighting began nearly four years ago.
Ukrainian forces have continued to strike back. A newly released video apparently shows Ukrainian sea drones hitting two Russian oil tankers linked to Moscow’s so‑called “shadow fleet,” used to evade sanctions and support Russia’s economy. CBS News said it could not independently verify the footage but noted the clip suggests Kyiv has again found innovative ways to target Russian maritime assets.
