Today host Savannah Guthrie and her siblings posted a short Instagram video Saturday pleading for the return of their missing mother, saying, ‘We will pay.’ In the clip Guthrie says the family received a message and urged whoever has their mother to bring her home so they can find peace and celebrate together.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen on Jan. 31 and authorities believe she was abducted from her Tucson-area home. A Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson told ABC News the office is aware of the family’s video but had no additional information to share.
The family’s statement refers to a message investigators say was received by a Tucson television station and are reviewing. The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office have not verified the authenticity of that message or of other alleged ransom notes sent to multiple media outlets, but officials say all such communications are being treated seriously.
As of Saturday no new leads had been reported, according to a source familiar with the investigation and public comments from the sheriff’s office. The FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information that leads to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery and/or the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance.
Investigators say Nancy Guthrie was dropped off at her Catalina Foothills residence shortly after 10 p.m. on Jan. 31 after dining with family and was reported missing the next morning when she failed to attend church. Surveillance footage shows a doorbell camera at the home was disconnected around 1:45 a.m. Sunday, and her pacemaker app lost connection to her phone shortly before 2:30 a.m. Authorities also reported finding blood on the porch.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest. Prior to the Saturday video, Guthrie and her siblings had posted other appeals asking whoever has their mother to make contact and provide proof that she is alive.
