The hunt is on for possible suspects in a mass shooting late Saturday at a banquet hall in Stockton, California, that left four people dead — three of them children — and wounded others.
Police say up to 150 people were inside celebrating a family party when gunfire erupted. Fifteen people were taken to the hospital; at least 11 others were wounded. Authorities believe the incident was targeted and have indicated there may have been multiple shooters, though they released little information about suspects.
Dozens of investigators, including a team from the FBI, are working the case. An officer told reporters, “From what we’ve gathered so far, there appears to be multiple shooters. I am confident in our team and with the work that we have done so far that we will find these animals that did this and bring them to justice.”
Community members expressed grief and outrage. One resident said, “These animals walked in and shot children at a children’s birthday party. And none of us should stand for that.” Clergy leaders and family members planned a candlelight vigil as the community mourned. “This is Thanksgiving weekend. This is when families come together, celebrate, share memories. And unfortunately, tonight, heaven is a little bigger,” a community member said.
CBS Sacramento’s Madisen Keavy reported from Stockton as investigators continued searching for those responsible. Authorities have urged anyone with information or tips to contact Stockton police as the investigation proceeds.
