Updated Dec. 10, 2025 — Former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail Wednesday, hours after the school announced his termination, authorities confirmed.
Pittsfield Township police said officers responded just after 4 p.m. to a location in the 3000 block of Ann Arbor Saline Road in connection with an alleged assault. The department’s news release did not identify Moore by name and characterized the incident as not appearing random. The suspect was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor, and the investigation remains active. Police said they could not release further details while the probe is ongoing.
Earlier Wednesday, the university said an investigation uncovered what it described as “credible evidence” that Moore had been involved in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said Moore was terminated with cause, effective immediately, calling the conduct a clear violation of university policy and citing the school’s zero-tolerance stance.
Moore had been Michigan’s head coach for two seasons, compiling a 16-8 record and steering the No. 18 Wolverines to a ReliaQuest Bowl victory last year. The university has named Biff Poggi as interim head coach; Poggi had been an associate coach at Michigan, left to coach at Charlotte, and returned to Michigan’s staff in 2025.
Michigan is scheduled to face No. 13 Texas in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
