Tiger Woods was arrested on a DUI charge after his SUV rolled over Friday afternoon on Jupiter Island, Florida, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said. Authorities say the 50-year-old was driving at high speed when his Land Rover clipped a pickup truck, struck a maintenance vehicle and rolled on a residential street; still images released by police showed the black SUV on its side and Woods exiting through the passenger door.
Police reported that Woods exhibited signs of impairment and conducted several field sobriety tests. He submitted to a breathalyzer that reportedly showed no alcohol, but he refused a urine test; he was arrested, taken into custody and held at the Martin County Jail for at least eight hours. Neither Woods nor the other driver was reported injured.
The sheriff’s office said the crash could have been much worse if another vehicle had been traveling in the opposite direction and emphasized concerns about the high speed investigators say Woods was driving. This is Woods’ second DUI-related police encounter — he was arrested in Jupiter in 2017 after officers found him asleep in his vehicle and reported signs of impairment — and his second rollover crash, following a serious single-vehicle rollover on a California highway in 2021 that resulted in severe leg injuries.
Woods, who recently competed in an indoor golf league and had been weighing a return to the Masters, was alone in the car at the time of Friday’s crash. Representatives for Woods had not immediately responded to requests for comment, the sheriff’s office said.
