The Artemis II crew is scheduled to splashdown about 50 miles off the coast of San Diego around 8:07 PM Eastern (5:07 PM Pacific). The Orion capsule will begin atmospheric entry near 400,000 feet and take roughly 13 minutes to descend to the ocean. Recovery teams will extract the four astronauts from the capsule and transfer them to the USS John P. Bertha, the Navy ship that has steamed out to meet them.
Onboard the ship the astronauts will undergo medical checks. If they pass, they will fly from the ship to a Navy base in San Diego and then transfer to another flight to the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
The Orion capsule itself will be loaded onto the USS John P. Bertha and returned to the Navy base. Recovery teams will debrief and, depending on how long operations take, provide a public update either early Saturday morning or later in the afternoon.
