President Trump attended the dignified transfer at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware for six U.S. service members killed in the Iran-related conflict, calling the fallen “great heroes” and saying their deaths would not change his strategy. Flag-draped transfer cases carrying the remains were met by Trump and Vice President Vance.
The six service members were among those killed in a drone strike reported last Sunday in Kuwait. The group included Nicole Amor, a Minnesota mother of two, and other Army reservists assigned to an Iowa-based unit.
Earlier in the day at his Doral resort, Trump hosted a summit with Latin American and Caribbean leaders. He defended recent U.S. actions against Iran as the crisis entered its second week, saying the operation had gone very well and, when asked to rate its success, offering, “I’d say about a 15.” He urged an unconditional surrender from Iran and characterized the U.S. action as a “short excursion.”
The conflict has had economic effects: major stock indexes ended the week lower while oil and gas prices rose. The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline increased roughly $0.43 over the week to $3.41, and some consumers reported that higher fuel costs were affecting their travel plans. Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said he was not worried about gas prices and expected them to fall.
After the Dover ceremony, Trump returned to Florida. CBS correspondent Nikole Killion reported from Doral for the network while Jericka Duncan anchored the segment.
