The products were sold at Wegmans stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C., between Nov. 3 and Dec. 1, according to the FDA recall notice.
Reason for recall and health risk
The supplier’s routine testing found Salmonella in one lot of raw pistachios, prompting the recall. Salmonella infection can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain; in some cases it can lead to severe complications or death, particularly in young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
No illnesses reported
The FDA said no illnesses linked to these recalled mixed nuts have been reported to date.
What consumers should do
Customers who purchased the recalled Wegmans Deluxe Mixed Nuts Unsalted can return the product to any Wegmans service desk for a full refund. Do not consume the products if you suspect they are from the listed lots.
This notice was issued after the manufacturer notified regulators; consumers with questions can contact Wegmans or consult the FDA recall announcement for further information.
