March 17, 2026 / 10:49 PM EDT — One person was killed and another wounded in a shooting Tuesday at Holloman Air Force Base near Alamogordo in southern New Mexico, military officials said.
The base was placed on lockdown around 5:30 p.m. after reports of an active shooter. The wounded person was taken for medical treatment.
Security officials later said the base is safe and the lockdown has been lifted. A base statement said emergency personnel responded and there is no ongoing threat.
Officials have not released the identities of those shot or additional details about the incident.
Holloman covers roughly 93 square miles and is home to the 49th Wing, which supports national security work and includes combat-ready airmen and guardians.
