A shell fired from Lebanon struck northern Israel, causing damage as the Israel Defense Forces investigate the incident. Israel has been striking infrastructure it says is linked to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. First responders near the border reported two vehicles on fire and said a person appeared trapped in one vehicle with no signs of life.
President Donald Trump posted an ultimatum on social media saying the United States would ‘hit and obliterate’ Iranian power plants if the Strait of Hormuz is not fully reopened within 48 hours. He added the U.S. would begin with the largest facilities; Iran’s Damavand Combined Cycle Power Plant near Tehran is widely considered the country’s biggest. The narrow Strait of Hormuz, which normally carries roughly 20% of global oil trade, has effectively been closed by Iran since the start of the war. Trump also said he was considering ‘winding down’ the U.S. military campaign, claiming U.S. forces were close to meeting their objectives, and offered U.S. assistance to Gulf states to secure the strait if they request it.
Israeli authorities reported that 64 people were injured in what they described as an Iranian attack on the city of Arad. According to Israel’s MDA emergency service, seven of the wounded were in serious condition and 15 in moderate condition. IDF spokesperson Effie Defrin said the strikes on Arad and an earlier strike on Dimona were direct missile hits, noting that air defenses were activated but did not intercept the incoming missile; the military said it will investigate the event and draw lessons.
In Dimona, a building sustained damage in a missile attack, and Israeli fire-and-rescue services treated 47 people, including a 10-year-old boy in serious condition and a woman in moderate condition, both with shrapnel injuries. The Negev Nuclear Research Center, located just outside Dimona and used for general scientific nuclear research, has not been reported damaged; the International Atomic Energy Agency said it was aware of reports of a missile impact in Dimona but had received no indication of harm to the research center.
