Family members of Ashly Robinson, the social media creator who used the name Ashlee Jenae, are seeking answers after she died while traveling in Zanzibar with her fiancé.
Robinson, 31, was reportedly on vacation to celebrate her birthday when her boyfriend of about a year and a half, Joe McCann, proposed. Within days, authorities say she was found unconscious in the couple’s villa and taken to a hospital, where she subsequently died.
Robinson’s parents say McCann placed a call acknowledging that something had happened, but they learned of their daughter’s death from staff at the resort. A family member told reporters, “It’s under investigation,” and said the family wants transparency about the circumstances.
Tanzanian investigators held a news briefing stating they are questioning McCann and have retained his passport pending the completion of autopsy results. Officials say the matter remains under investigation as they work to determine what occurred.
CBS News correspondent Jericka Duncan reported that Robinson’s family is demanding information while authorities continue their inquiries in Zanzibar.
