March 7, 2026 — A pre-dawn blast at a nightclub on Peru’s northern coast wounded 33 people, including three teenagers, authorities said Saturday.
The explosion tore through the Dali nightclub in the Trujillo province, the local Emergency Operations Center reported. The region has seen a recent uptick in violent crime and other incidents tied to organized criminal activity.
Gerardo Florián Gómez, executive director of the Trujillo Health Network, told reporters that at least five of the injured are in serious condition. Medical teams are treating victims for amputations and shrapnel wounds; several were in surgery. Among those hurt were three minors — one 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds, Florián said.
Officials have not yet identified a suspect or established a motive for the attack.
The blast follows another explosion in Trujillo less than a month ago that damaged roughly 25 homes but did not cause injuries. The La Libertad region, which includes Trujillo and Peru’s largest gold-producing Andean area, has been affected by extortion and illegal mining. Government figures show 286 explosions in the region in 2025, 136 of them in Trujillo.
Authorities say the wider spread of organized criminal groups has contributed to a rise in related crimes such as extortion, further destabilizing the area.
