Weather alerts stretched from the Plains through the Midwest into the Northeast, and parts of New York State and New England were under winter storm warnings. Chicago recorded more than eight inches of snow — its snowiest November day on record — while a Delta regional jet slid off an icy runway at Des Moines Airport and a 45-car pileup briefly closed part of Interstate 70 in Indiana. More than 2,000 flights were canceled at O’Hare and thousands more were delayed as holiday travelers scrambled. Meteorologists warned of icing risks as far south as Little Rock and said a rain–snow line was moving into the Northeast, where coastal cities were expected to see mostly rain while interior and New England areas could still receive heavy snow accumulations.
