NBC “Today” host Savannah Guthrie posted a video on social media appealing for help in locating her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who was reported missing Sunday in Arizona. Authorities say they believe Nancy was abducted; the FBI and local detectives are among those working on the investigation.
In the family video, Savannah and her siblings thank the public for prayers and support while describing Nancy, 84, as the center of their family — kind, faithful, loyal and fiercely loving. They say she lives with chronic pain and fragile health and is currently without the medications she needs. The family urged anyone with information to come forward so she can be brought home.
Responding to media reports about a ransom letter, the family said they are willing to speak with anyone who has information. They also warned that audio and images can be manipulated online and asked for unquestionable proof that Nancy is alive and that the person contacting them has her. In the message to their mother they said, in part, that she is strong and that her children will not rest until they are together again.
This post is the family’s first public statement since Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. They said they appreciate the outpouring of support and continue to cooperate with investigators as details develop. Law enforcement has asked anyone with information to contact local authorities or the FBI. The search and investigation remain active.
