Authorities are searching for suspects after a mass shooting late Saturday at a banquet hall in Stockton, California, that left four people dead — including three children — and injured others.
Police say as many as 150 people were inside the hall for a family gathering when gunfire broke out. Fifteen people were taken to hospitals for treatment, and at least 11 others were reported wounded. Investigators have indicated the shooting appears to have been targeted and have not ruled out the possibility of multiple shooters.
Dozens of investigators, including agents from the FBI, have been assigned to the case as police work to identify and locate those responsible. An officer told reporters investigators believe there were multiple assailants and expressed confidence the team will apprehend those involved and hold them accountable.
Community leaders and residents reacted with grief and anger. One local resident said the attackers “walked in and shot children at a children’s birthday party,” and called for the community to reject such violence. Clergy and family members planned a candlelight vigil as Stockton mourned during the Thanksgiving weekend, a time usually reserved for family gatherings.
CBS Sacramento correspondent Madisen Keavy reported from Stockton as investigators continued their search. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting or possible suspects to contact Stockton police as the investigation proceeds.
