President Trump’s new online platform, TrumpRx.gov, launched Thursday as part of the administration’s effort to lower drug costs. The White House says the site provides “immediate relief” by pointing consumers to discounted, direct-to-consumer offers from drug manufacturers—but it does not sell medications itself.
What TrumpRx does
TrumpRx is a searchable portal that displays manufacturer-provided pricing offers for commonly used medicines. Visitors cannot complete purchases on the site; instead, the platform links users to participating drugmakers’ pages and lists instructions for how to obtain the discounted price. The White House describes the program as a way for consumers to find ‘‘dramatically lower prices’’ on dozens of medicines.
Kaye Pestaina, vice president and director of KFF’s patient and consumer protections program, summarized the platform as a price display portal rather than a seller. To actually buy a discounted product, consumers must follow the offer-specific steps listed on each drug’s page.
Who can use it and what it covers
Anyone with a prescription can view offers on TrumpRx, but current discounts are limited to cash-paying consumers—meaning the deals do not accept insurance and purchases won’t count toward a patient’s deductible. That makes the platform potentially useful for uninsured people, those with high deductibles, or patients whose plans don’t cover a particular drug.
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz urged consumers to check these direct-to-consumer options, saying they could be a useful way to save. KFF’s Pestaina noted, however, that many insured patients still pay less through their plans than via cash prices; exceptions include some newer weight-loss drugs and fertility treatments that plans often don’t cover.
Examples and administration goals
The White House highlighted deep discounts for certain medicines. For example, the administration said Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy pills are being advertised on TrumpRx for as little as $149 per month, down from about $1,349. Fertility treatments are another focus: the platform lists large discounts for drugs like Gonal-F and others not commonly covered by insurance.
Last year the White House announced deals with more than a dozen manufacturers to participate in the coupon-like program, naming companies such as AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, Genentech, Merck and Pfizer. Officials say they plan to add more manufacturers and expand the number of discounted products.
President Trump has also called on Congress to pass legislation called “The Great Healthcare Plan,” introduced in January, which the administration says would allow health plans to cover TrumpRx purchases and further lower insurance costs.

What to watch for
TrumpRx could provide meaningful savings for some patients, particularly those paying cash or whose insurance excludes specific drugs. But experts caution that insured patients sometimes obtain better pricing through their plans, and the site’s offers do not currently apply to insured purchases or count toward deductibles. The administration says legislative changes could allow plans to cover these purchases and broaden the program’s reach.
