Savannah Guthrie and her siblings, Camron and Annie, posted a heartfelt Instagram appeal as searchers work to find their mother, Nancy Guthrie, who authorities say was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona, home over the weekend.
In the video the siblings said they had seen reports about a ransom note and that the family is willing to communicate, but urged whoever is holding their mother to prove she is alive. They also warned that in an age of manipulated images and voices they need undeniable evidence that Nancy is safe before proceeding with any arrangement.
The children described Nancy as a warm, loyal and fiercely loving woman who brings joy to everyone around her. Savannah said she is funny, spirited and clever, adored by her grandchildren and devoted to friends and family. Annie called their mother a beacon who chooses joy despite life’s hardships, and all three expressed an urgent, personal plea for her return.
Nancy Guthrie is 84 years old and, according to Savannah, in fragile health. The family said she lives with chronic pain and requires medications to avoid additional suffering, heightening their concern for her safety.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told reporters the family reported Nancy missing Sunday after she did not attend church and was not at home. Investigators have reconstructed part of the timeline: Nancy had dinner Saturday at Annie’s home and was driven back by Annie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni.
Sheriff Nanos confirmed a ransom note was sent to a local Arizona news outlet after Nancy’s disappearance, though officials have not verified its authenticity. The station that received the note agreed not to publish it, and the note reportedly included specific details about Nancy’s residence and what she was wearing that night. KOLD-TV reported it received an email that appears to be one of the alleged ransom communications and forwarded it to law enforcement.
Authorities have not named any suspects or persons of interest and said it remains unclear how many people may be involved. Investigators found a small amount of blood inside the home that is being tested, and what appeared to be dried blood was visible next to a doormat outside the front door, officials said.
Sheriff Nanos emphasized that the central question remains where Nancy is, and that detectives continue to pursue leads rather than pointing to a specific perpetrator.
The FBI is sending additional personnel to support the local investigation. Former President Donald Trump posted that he had spoken with Savannah Guthrie and that he had directed federal law enforcement resources to assist the family and local authorities in efforts to bring Nancy home safely.
The Guthrie siblings concluded their message by directly addressing their mother, urging her to stay strong and come home, and promising they will not rest until the family is reunited. Law enforcement asked anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Office as the search continues.
