AMD reports an unprecedented quarter in Q3 2026, fueled by its expanding data center revenue.

Record Financial Performance

During the recent quarterly earnings call, AMD's CEO Lisa Su announced that the third quarter of 2026 marked a historic achievement for the company. With a remarkable $13.4 billion in revenue, AMD is on track to set a new benchmark, forecasting $17 billion for the upcoming quarter.

Data Center Revenue Surge

A significant portion of this growth comes from AMD's data center division, which reported impressive revenues of $8.5 billion in Q3 2026. Su indicated a positive outlook for the future, projecting a revenue increase of over 80 percent for 2027, with the data center sector expected to lead this growth.

The company's Chief Financial Officer, Jean Hu, shared insights on the company's trajectory, suggesting that by 2027, over 80 percent of AMD's total revenue could be attributed to its data center operations.

Significant Shift in Revenue Composition

As of the latest quarter, approximately 63 percent of AMD's net revenue stems from its data center business. This trend reflects the growing importance of data centers in AMD's overall financial model, as evidenced by a $1.9 billion increase in total revenue correlated closely with a $1.8 billion rise in data center sales.

Challenges in Gaming Division

Despite the booming data center revenue, AMD's gaming sector faced challenges, experiencing a 40 percent decline year-over-year, leading to revenues of just $773 million. The global shortage of essential components like RAM, driven by increasing demand from AI data centers, has impacted pricing for PCs, gaming consoles, and related technology.

Su addressed the implications of these component shortages, stating, “This is one of those times when component prices increase, affecting overall system pricing. We expected a sensitive consumer market, which has contributed to our observed slowdown in sell-through.” She also noted foreboding predictions for the upcoming year, suggesting that AMD is planning for a challenging market in 2027.
