Sonos enhances its app with new features, improving user experience and system troubleshooting.

As Sonos gears up for its AI-enhanced voice assistant expected in Fall 2026, the company is making strides to elevate user experience. Recently, Sonos introduced meaningful updates to its app, aimed at resolving common issues that users face while operating their audio systems.

Introducing System Health

One significant upgrade is the addition of the System Health feature, which is currently exclusive to iOS users. This new tool provides a comprehensive look at connected speakers and network status, allowing users to quickly identify any technical problems.

The System Health tool is particularly useful when multiple systems or a mix of older and newer speakers are present. For example, if you’ve updated your router, the app can detect the Double Network Address issue. This scenario often arises when new routers interfere with speaker connections, leading to frustrating alerts like "System not found" and connection failures.

You can access System Health through the Settings tab in the Help Center. Within this feature, users can view all connected speakers, with those that are offline marked clearly. Key information is displayed, such as the Wi-Fi signal strength, IP addresses, and speaker status.

Improved Volume Control Features

In response to user feedback regarding volume inconsistencies, Sonos has introduced Volume Presets. This feature allows users to set specific volume levels for different speakers, helping prevent surprises when switching between rooms.

While I've not yet seen this feature in my current app update, it is expected to roll out soon for both iOS and Android devices. In addition, a swipe-to-skip feature for the in-app miniplayer has been added, enabling users to effortlessly move to the next song with a simple swipe.

Unfortunately, swiping to replay a song isn’t supported yet, which has left users curious about future enhancements. Regardless, the ability to navigate tracks without switching between screens is a step in the right direction.

Updates for Sonos Ace Ultra Headphones

Another key improvement comes for those using Sonos Ace Ultra headphones. A firmware update has introduced a Vocal Guidance feature that announces battery levels, audio mode changes, and connected devices. This enhancement will help users stay updated on their headphone status without having to look at their devices.

All these updates showcase Sonos’ commitment to refining user experience and expanding the capabilities of their audio systems. As we look forward to the anticipated voice assistant, it certainly seems that Sonos is laying a solid foundation for future innovations in home audio entertainment.

What’s Next for Sonos Users?

With a phased rollout of these updates, Sonos users can expect more control and improved functionality in their audio setups. These enhancements are not just about fixing minor annoyances; they represent a significant effort to streamline the user experience as we anticipate the arrival of AI-driven features.
